TEFL Internships Terms & Conditions
The terms and conditions outlined below apply to everyone who books a China TEFL Internship with edcentric teaching and its subsidiary in China; including bookings made via our website, over the phone, through an app or via an instant messaging app or social platform. Terms and conditions pertaining to our TEFL Job Placement Service in China are specific to each individual school or educational institute and, if requested by you, edcentric teaching will ask on your behalf for the relevant Terms and Conditions of that school.
In the context of the following terms and conditions edcentric teaching will hereafter be referred to as "the company", "we", "us" or "our".
It is in your best interest to fully read and understand the terms and conditions and how they apply to you. There are two sets of terms applicable to your internship booking with us. The first set is that of edcentric teaching and it follows immediately below; the second set is that of our subsidiary in China. Our subsidiary in China is a separate business entity and is solely responsible for your internship period in its entirety and those terms are outlined at the bottom of this page.
As such this partner is hereafter referred to as the "internship provider".
In the context of the following terms and conditions edcentric teaching will hereafter be referred to as "the company", "we", "us" or "our".

When you apply for an internship with us you are signing into a contract with the internship provider and are acknowledging that all issues relating to your internship period in China will be handled and dealt with by the internship provider.

This hereby marks the end of the terms and conditions pertaining to edcentric teaching and the booking of your internship. For the terms and conditions pertaining to your internship period in China please read the internship providers terms and conditions.
General
- We are solely responsible for putting you in contact with the internship provider. Upon acceptance of these terms and conditions you are allowing us to act on your behalf to contact the internship provider located in China to get your internship program underway.
- Your booking with us is subject to both sets of terms and conditions. The first set outlining the obligations and responsibilities of edcentric teaching as they apply to you and the second set outlining the relationship between you and the internship provider and their obligations towards you as well as what should happen in the event that something goes wrong with any elements which are associated with the internship.
- Where applicable an additional set of TEFL Course terms will also be put into effect. This applies only to those who apply for a TEFL Combined Program directly through edcentricteaching.com. See TEFL Course Terms and Conditions for more information.
- By signing up and booking your internship through us you are accepting the terms of edcentric teaching, the terms of the internship provider and also the TEFL Course terms (only when they apply to you).
- Your booking is only confirmed upon your receipt of a booking confirmation, the "Invoice of Confirmation".
Payment and Booking
- Where there is a cost for our internship, such as any paid add-ons, then you will be required to pay the entirety of the internship program booking fee upfront.
- Any payments made in regards to our TEFL Course Add-ons are non-refundable after payment has been made.
- Should you no longer be able to attend your internship, after having paid any fees, then edcentric teaching will endeavour to refund where possible (minus any TEFL Course Add-Ons), so long as the date of cancellation is more than 2 months prior to the expected internship start date. Should the date of cancellation be less than 2 months from the start of the internship period then you risk losing some or all of your initial payment.
- edcentric teaching will not be liable for any costs or fees incurred by you in any of the following situations: a) information that has been incorrectly provided by you in the booking procedure; b) information that has been incorrectly entered by us yet no communication has been met by you to update said information.
- All booking information that you provide will only be passed onto any third parties where it be deemed necessary for the provision of the internship. This information may, therefore, be passed onto such public authorities, including but not limited to, customs and immigration, if so required by them.
- In making this booking with us, you consent that we may pass on your information to all the necessary third parties, with the successful provision of your internship being the sole desired outcome.
Cancellation and Amendment
- Should you wish to cancel your internship booking then you can request a refund. If the date of cancellation is more than 2 months before the expected internship start date then you will receive a full refund of your booking fee, minus any card or transaction fees incurred by us. If the date of cancellation is less than 2 months prior to the expected start date then you risk forfeiting some or all of your booking fee, the exact amount to be determined by edcentric teaching.
- We reserve the right to decide the amount to be refunded on a case by case basis, dependant on what fees have already been paid out by us; having said that it is reasonable to expect anywhere from 30%-100% refundable.
- Any requests for amendment will be subject to the approval of the internship provider and if approved will follow the same guidelines outlined above for cancellations.
Internship Requirements
- For the entirety of your internship program in China you will be subject to all China applicable laws and regulations and as such you will be expected to comply with them at all times during your stay in China. For more information regarding these laws and regulations please contact us here and we will be happy to assist.
- All documentation required by you at every stage in the internship booking process shall be provided by you without delay, to the best of your ability and in an acceptable form. edcentric teaching holds the right to deem what is and isn't acceptable form and failure to comply will result in your internship booking becoming void with no possibility of refund.
- Should there be an error with your internship booking at any point and, for whatever reason, you are refused acceptance onto the internship program from an outside authority or third party and which is beyond our control then edcentric teaching will refund all possible costs of the internship booking, minus any and all fees that have been paid out up until that point in pursuit of your internship. The list of fees will also be emailed to you, prior to receiving your refund, for your own perusal.
Insurance
- Insurance will be provided for you for the duration of your internship in China and will be arranged by the internship provider. This insurance, however, will only cover the time you are in China. As such, should you wish to purchase other forms of insurance such as flight or baggage insurance prior to your arrival then do so of your own volition.
- The cost of insurance will be taken from your first month's living allowance and then reimbursed to you in the last month.
Health, Passports and Visas
- Prior to being accepted into China you may very well find that there are certain health checks, types of injections or immunisations that you should have. It is your sole responsibility to research and arrange these in order to make sure that you are fit for travel and that you meet all the requirements for travel into China for the period of one year, prior to your date of travel. This information can be obtained from the Foreign Office or any other relevant governing body.
- Information about passport and visa requirements can also be obtained from the Foreign Office. Any specific passport, visa or immigration requirements are your responsibility and you should actively aim to confirm these with all the relevant embassies and/or consulates prior to booking with us.
- Failure to comply with any of the above means that edcentric teaching will not accept any responsibility should you be refused travel based on not meeting any health, passport, visa or immigration requirements.
Alterations to Internship Booking
- On the off-chance that alterations need to be made to your internship program, we will consult with you directly about these.
Complaints and Issues
- If you are dissatisfied in anyway regarding your internship at any point in time then these issues can either be reported directly to the internship provider, located in the city of Changsha, or to us at edcentric teaching and we will act on your behalf and head up your complaints with the internship provider.
- During your stay if you require any support or assistance you can contact the local office in Changsha and they will do their best to help solve these issues.
Limitation of Liability
- The booking of the internship and all things pertaining to it are solely between you and the internship provider located in Changsha. With the exception of circumstances where we are negligent in the way we handle your internship booking, we accept no responsibility or liability for whatever complaints, damages, expenses, losses or other claims may arise over the duration of your internship.
- Moreover, we will not be liable for any act or omission by persons not directly employed by us or by those under our immediate control. The internship provider is a separate entity in Changsha and for the duration of your internship in China they are solely responsible for whatever may occur during your time with them. For more details pertaining to the internship providers responsibility and liability in accordance with your internship, then you are advised to read the internship providers terms and conditions.
- We are also not responsible for any loss, damage or expense incurred by you resulting from strike, civil commotion, flood, fire, threat of war or war itself, terrorist activity, national or nuclear disaster, adverse weather conditions or any other acts deemed wholly out of our control during your time in China.
- Under no circumstances will we be liable for any loss of profit or revenue, loss of business or goodwill, loss of reputation or anticipated savings arising from the failure or delay in providing our services under these terms and conditions or in any way related to these terms and conditions.

Terms and Conditions of YSE

The intern must complete and maintain the following criteria as established by us, the internship provider, and the educational venues in which the intern will be assigned to. Upon agreement of these terms and conditions, no section detailed below will be negotiable and is binding until the completion of this agreement.
3) Requests Pertaining to Time Off
It is understood that time may be needed in light of certain circumstances. When time that may interfere with the regular schedule is deemed to be necessary and the intern in question is unable to complete his or her duties then the following should remain in affect.
4) Claims
When an intern must make a claim due to injury or the damage of property, he or she will take into account the following when making such claims.
5) Compensation
The agreed upon compensation for time worked stated in this agreement will be granted for any and all work completed by the intern and payed in full by the internship provider in compliance with the internship placement in question. Payment receipts will be kept on file and provided upon request from no one other than the intern in question as well as emailed to a provided inbox. All payment details will remain confidential between the signers of this agreement.
6) Living Accommodation
Proper and acceptable living accommodation is provided for all interns. Negotiations are permitted until the signing of an agreement between the internship provider and the landlord in question. Interns may not switch housing after this agreement.
7) Terms accepted by the Internship Provider
The internship provider hereby declares that it will handle all affairs in a professional and temperate manner and give all time possible to the grievances of each intern. We will take, by this binding contract, all actions deemed necessary by the owner and employees on the office level in order to resolve any issues that may arise.
8) Acquisition of Proper Visas
Although all visas should be acquired by the intern himself/herself before travel arrangements are made, the internship provider understands the difficulty for some to obtain the proper forms and documents. In light of circumstances that may make acquiring the visas impossible, we will handle the task of getting all visas in order at no cost to the intern. No fees will be paid by said intern unless this contract is prematurely terminated by either signing party.

In the event that the intern would like to terminate this contract, he or she agrees to the following:

This hereby marks the end of the terms and conditions pertaining to YSE in regards to your internship period in China. For further details regarding the particulars of the internship programs on offer please refer to the Internship Providers specific Internship Contract.
- The intern agrees to work up to but no more than 35 hours a week and no less than 30 hours a week as well as up to 7 hours per day and no less than 6 hours per day as set forth by the individual establishments assigned to them, unless an agreement is otherwise established.
- Each week the intern will be granted a 1-2 day rest period unless schedule changes by the aforementioned establishments do not permit such days to be taken in which case a change of days will be negotiated and an agreement will be set.
- The intern understands that schedules are created, managed, and subject to change by the intern’s respective educational establishment and are not subject to change by this agency or any employee by such unless the schedule changes in question are in violation of the section that states that the intern will work no more than 35 hours each week.
- The intern will be on time and prompt in coordination with their respective placement’s schedule and will be subject to penalties if late or absent that may result in one of the following punitive measures:
- Deduction or complete loss of pocket money for the day
- Requirement to make up lost time on an alternate day(s)
- Termination of internship
- Desired time off or requests to have ones schedule changed will be submitted to the appropriate offices no less than one week before the aforementioned changes are negotiated.
- Though some form of a daily rest period is permitted in most educational institutions, rest during the day is in no way guaranteed by the internship provider.
2) Terms to be accepted by the Intern
The intern must complete and maintain the following criteria as established by us, the internship provider, and the educational venues in which the intern will be assigned to. Upon agreement of these terms and conditions, no section detailed below will be negotiable and is binding until the completion of this agreement.
- The intern will follow all rules and customs set out by the local and federal government. We will bear no responsibility should anyone commit any act or acts deemed illegal by any government, be it on the local or federal levels.
- The intern will abide by all regulations and rules set forth by the establishment(s) in which they are placed for the duration of the internship period including those that may not be required in other establishments or abided by others employed in those institutions.
- The intern will be required to undertake an unpaid training period no less than 3 days and no more than 7 days before being assigned to a school, the specific length of which is to be determined by the agency and based on the intern in questions previous experience and qualifications.
- The intern will present all complaints and grievances in a professional, calm, and respectful manner.
- The intern will immediately present any issue that may arise in their workplace that may be in violation of this contract or any disputes that may be taking place within shared housing provided by the internship provider.
- Childcare, as well as constant English communication, is understood to be a major part of the responsibilities of each intern and may include the following:
- Clothing and putting to bed
- Help with time in the bathroom
- Play time
- Discipline
- Exercise
- If required by the establishment in question, a weekly lesson plan will be submitted to the appropriate office(s) or person(s) within the workplace. Furthermore proper steps should be taken on behalf of the intern in order to remain up to date with schedule changes and special events.
- The intern will finance all medical checks and expenses involved such that may pertain to the procurement of their required visas that may include but are not limited to:
- Application fees
- Postal fees
3) Requests Pertaining to Time Off
It is understood that time may be needed in light of certain circumstances. When time that may interfere with the regular schedule is deemed to be necessary and the intern in question is unable to complete his or her duties then the following should remain in affect.
- If leave is requested due to illness, notification of no later than 8:00pm the previous night will be submitted to office personnel via SMS, WeChat, or phone call. Failure to do so will result in a 100元 (RMB) penalty fee being deducted automatically from the interns spending allowance for that month.
- Time taken off must not exceed 1 week unless deemed reasonable and acceptable by those that work on the office level.
- Travel arrangements that may interfere with scheduled work time will be submitted to us with ample time to find a suitable replacement for the intern in question.
- If more than 1 week is needed, a request of no later than 1 month preceding the time to be taken will be submitted to us, in writing, in order for us to find a suitable replacement. Failure to do so may result in termination of service or a penalty fee being incurred by the intern.
4) Claims
When an intern must make a claim due to injury or the damage of property, he or she will take into account the following when making such claims.
- Property damage to living quarters, appliances within said quarters, or any item that may not be in the direct ownership of the individual in question will be paid for in full by the individual so as to repair or else replace the item(s) in question.
- Although the internship provider is not financially liable for any damage to any property not owned by the teacher, it will act as an arbitrator between the property owner and intern in order to come to a fair and reasonable agreement.
- Motorbikes, be they gas or electric, used without licenses are strictly prohibited. If any individual violates this agreement and is injured, insurance will not cover injuries and we will hold no responsibility for any damages. The responsibility will fall to the individual in question.
5) Compensation
The agreed upon compensation for time worked stated in this agreement will be granted for any and all work completed by the intern and payed in full by the internship provider in compliance with the internship placement in question. Payment receipts will be kept on file and provided upon request from no one other than the intern in question as well as emailed to a provided inbox. All payment details will remain confidential between the signers of this agreement.
- All payments will be deposited into a secure bank account set up by Ying Shang Education and Consulting Co., LTD at no cost to the intern and located within the city in which said intern is employed by the agency in question. No cash payments will be granted unless done so upon a signed agreement with someone within the agency at the office level.
- The spending allowance will be provided on the 17th of each month for the previous month.
- All interns are granted access to online shopping upon request and at their own expense and/or risk.
- Sick leave day(s) totalling 2 days per signed contract will be provided. The intern will be compensated on the payment date to the amount of one day total payment after attainment of documents from a medical professional thus backing up claims of being unable to work.
6) Living Accommodation
Proper and acceptable living accommodation is provided for all interns. Negotiations are permitted until the signing of an agreement between the internship provider and the landlord in question. Interns may not switch housing after this agreement.
- The living quarters will be at a distance as close to the place of work as possible in coordination with the allowances outlined below.
- Accommodation, whether private or shared, will be provided as well as 100元 (RMB) total per occupant for the following consumables and services that will be divided equally amongst the inhabitants:*
- Electricity
- Water
- Gas
- We will not tolerate any explosive and/or unruly behaviour in the work place and/or shared housing. The responsibility of arbitrating affairs between individuals not employed by us and those employed by us will not be our responsibility.
- If interns would like to upgrade their accommodation, he or she will be expected to pay all charges pertaining to the upgrade and to maintain the monthly payments.
- If occupants cannot remain hygienic and tidy and an issue of unhygienic conditions is brought to our attention, a cleaning professional will be hired to clean the apartment at the expense of the occupants in question.
7) Terms accepted by the Internship Provider
The internship provider hereby declares that it will handle all affairs in a professional and temperate manner and give all time possible to the grievances of each intern. We will take, by this binding contract, all actions deemed necessary by the owner and employees on the office level in order to resolve any issues that may arise.
- Provide accident insurance, medical insurance and hospital care for the duration of the internship period, whether that be the end date of the contract or an earlier termination put into effect by either of the signing parties. The cost of this service will be deducted from the intern’s first allowance payment and returned upon completion of the 12 month contract.
- Provide information to the intern in question that may be crucial to his or her familiarisation with the surrounding areas as well as support in coming to terms with the cultural differences that may exist between them and the Chinese people.
- Provide a suitable internship placement for the intern in question and provide support on behalf of both the work place and the intern assigned to such.
- Pay, in full, medical checks which may be required by educational institutions.
- International shipping of personal packages will be handled via the agency office on the 10th of every month though expenses will be covered by the individual wanting to ship the parcel.
- Bus cards will be accepted for recharge on the 10th of every month.
- Offices will remain available between the hours of 9:00am and 5:00pm to all that follow an agreed upon appointment. All appointments will be kept unless extenuating circumstances do not allow it. In the event that an appointment must be cancelled, a rescheduling will be offered on a date suitable for both parties.
- Provide a SIM card for a mobile phone (which should be provided by the intern) upon arriving in China. The intern will be expected to maintain the account and pay his or her own fees, whatever amount they should be.
- The internship provider will pay for all Chinese national holidays where the intern may not be required to work, except when those holidays fall in the winter or summer holiday period.
- We WILL NOT offer up any information or assistance pertaining to any of the following:
- Illegal matters deemed so by local and/or federal government
- Obtaining of vehicles without proper licensing
- Substances deemed illegal
- Alcohol
8) Acquisition of Proper Visas

9) Termination of Internship by Intern
In the event that the intern would like to terminate this contract, he or she agrees to the following:
- To provide a written submission 2 months prior to the requested date of termination.
- To pay all fees pertaining to visas, living quarters, and/or any other fees acquired during the duration of stay to the internship provider.
10) Termination of Internship by Internship Provider
In the event that the internship provider would like to terminate this contract, it agrees to the following:
- Provide one months notice to the intern in question.
- Full payment of all days worked preceding the termination.
- Provide a detailed explanation for reason(s) of termination.
- Provide adequate solutions to return home if this is the wish of the intern being terminated.
